Ryan Suter Envisions Long Stay In Madison For Capitols

By Eric Rogers
Dec. 30, 2015 1:42 p.m. CT
MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Capitols have struggled to a 10-14-1-2 record so far this season, but primary owner and Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter plans to keep the franchise around for years to come.
The Capitols have dealt with plenty of adversity in their first two years of existence at the United States Hockey League level, now playing under direction of their third head coach in that span. Excitement of a new franchise brought Madison an average of 3,244 fans in its first year, but those numbers are down considerably in the 2015-16 season (2,243).
Speaking at the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum before a 6-1 loss to the Dubuque Fighting Saints Tuesday night, Suter explained some of the challenges of a young program. The Minnesota Wild star adds that he plans to keep the team around long enough to follow in his late-father’s footsteps and work with the youth in the city of Madison.
“I think I’ll be a part of this for sure,” Suter told reporters Tuesday night. “When I retire, I’d like to come and be a part of this more on a daily basis, but right now I’m just focused on my job and being able to [financially] support things like this.”
The Capitols play the Green Bay Gamblers Thursday at the Resch Center at 6 p.m. CT.
