Report: Daronte Jones Leaving UW For Miami Dolphins

By Eric Rogers
Feb. 10, 2016 8:42 a.m. CT
MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin football program will have to replace defensive backs coach Daronte Jones after just one season, after he reportedly accepted a job with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.
The report says Jones will become Miami’s assistant defensive backs coach, but at the time of publication, the team had yet to make the hiring official.
Jones spent one season at UW after being hired in January of 2015. He coached the Badgers to a seventh-ranked passing defense (173.2 yards per game) among FBS teams and played a big part in recruiting 2016 three-star safeties Eric Burrell and Patrick Johnson. Jones spent the previous three seasons at Hawaii.
It’s the second coaching change this offseason, after defensive coordinator Dave Aranda took the same position at LSU. Some analysts expect Aranda’s replacement, Justin Wilcox, to coach the defensive backs in the wake of Jones’ departure.
