SAN DIEGO — After a knee injury to receiver Stevie Johnson, the San Diego Chargers are reportedly meeting with former Green Bay Packers receiver James Jones.
It would be the second season in a row Jones gets an opportunity due to injury, but he could find himself in his 10th NFL season due to the severity of Johnson’s injury. His torn meniscus will require surgery and could jeopardize his 2016 season.
The 31-year-old receiver led Green Bay with 890 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 2015. That yardage mark was a career-high for Jones, averaging 17.8 yards per catch.
If San Diego doesn’t sign Jones, there aren’t many legitimate options in free agency, though Wes Welker and Brian Hartline could also be targets.
