Former Madison Capitols D Mitch Hults signs with Anaheim Ducks

MADISON, WI | The Madison Capitols, a member of the United States Hockey League, announced former defenseman Mitch Hults has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks.

Hults, 22, played in 55 games for the Capitols as a defenseman during the 2014-15 season, and collected 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points, and 90 penalty minutes. He is currently ranked eighth on the Capitols all-time penalty minutes with 90 minutes and 10th all-time with 21 assists. Hults is the first Capitols player to sign an NHL contract following his time in Madison.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Stoughton, WI, moved to the forward position and has recorded 54 points (20-34=54) and 98 penalty minutes in 76 games with the Lake Superior State University Lakers the last two seasons, 2015-2017.

Prior to joining the Capitols in 2014, Hults played two seasons with the USHL’s Indiana Ice. He registered 24 points (10-14=24) and 22 penalty minutes in 64 games with the Ice from 2012-14. Hults also won the Clark Cup with the Ice in 2014 with five playoff goals in eight games.

Caps’ Godbout Commits to Sacred Heart University

MADISON, WI (Madison Capitols) — The Madison Capitols, a member of the United States Hockey League, announce forward Marcel Godbout has committed to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Godbout, 20, joined the Capitols midway through the 2015-16 season when he was traded from the Chicago Steel to Madison for forward Haralds Egle on January 7, 2016. He dressed for 31 games with the Capitols and recorded 18 points (11-7=18) and 26 penalty minutes in Madison. Godbout also collected 16 points (11-5=16) and 35 penalty minutes in 31 games with the Steel last season. The St. Clair Shores, Michigan native potted two goals and an assist in three exhibition games, and he scored his first goal of the season in the season opener against the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday, September 23.

“It is a huge honor to commit to Sacred Heart,” explained Godbout. “I feel that the hockey program is on the rise and I’m looking forward to being apart of that.”

The 5-foot-9, 183-pound forward will start his college career with the Sacred Heart Pioneers during the 2017-18 season.

“I’m very excited for Marcel on his commitment to attend and play hockey for Sacred Heart next season,” said Capitols’ Head Coach and General Manager Garrett Suter. “He’s a good kid and is going to be a big part of our team’s success this year. Since I’ve come in, he’s been a leader and a big voice in the locker room. I’m looking forward to coaching him this year and watching him next season at school.”
