Brewers: Ryan Braun, Manny Pina placed on 10-day DL

The injuries keep coming for the Milwaukee Brewers.

The club announced Sunday that outfielder Ryan Braun (back strain) and catcher Manny Piña (left biceps strain) both were placed on the 10-day disabled list. It’s the second stint this year for both players and it continued a season in which Milwaukee has been hit hard by the injury bug. Only two players, third baseman Travis Shaw and shortstop Jonathan Villar, that started on Opening Day haven’t spent time on the DL or been sent to the minors.

Infielder Nate Orf took Braun’s roster spot, while Jacob Nottingham took Piña’s.

Orf had just been sent down on Friday after making his major league debut on Monday. Nottingham is back in the majors after getting to play in three games back in April. He was batting .303 with 10 home runs for Triple-A Colorado Springs.

It wasn’t all bad news on the injury front, though, as centerfielder Lorenzo Cain was activated off the disabled list, with starting pitcher Aaron Wilkerson being sent back to Triple-A to make room.

The Brewers also announced that left-handed reliever Mike Zagurski had been designated for assignment and righty Corbin Burnes was called up from Triple-A.
