The Madison Mallards won comfortably over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 10-3 last night behind a solid start from Justin Watland. Watland only allowed 2 hits, struck out seven batters, and gave up an unearned run over 7 innings. Over his last 17 innings, Watland has not given up an earned run. Watland improved his record to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 2.62.
The Mallards were up 3-1 in the seventh when the bases were loaded, then proceeded to string together some hits and walks to push across 5 runs. In the eighth inning, Tyler Plantier ripped his sixth home run of the year to add two more runs to the lead. Plantier leads the Mallards in home runs and is tied for second in RBI.
There is only one game left on this long road trip for the Mallards, as they finish up a two-game set tonight with the Rafters. Tomorrow they return to the Duck Pond for a double header against Rockford. The first game starts at 12:05 and the second starts at 6:35.
