WHITEWATER, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin — Whitewater and University of Wisconsin — Oshkosh football teams advance to the quarterfinals of the Division III football championship after wins Saturday afternoon.
The Whitewater Warhawks defeated Wittenberg 37-9 thanks to 496 yards of offense and a 28-15 advantage in first downs. Quarterbacks Cole Wilber and Chris Nelson combined for 265 yards and two touchdowns in the win. They’ll move on to face John Carroll which defeated Warhawks rival Mount Union in the regular season finale.
The Oshkosh Titans took down St. John’s 31-14 on the shoulders of running back Dylan Hecker, who carried the ball 21 times for 198 yards and three touchdowns. Eight receivers caught passes for the Titans, but totaled just 98 yards. They now face St. Thomas for a chance to meet Whitewater in the national semifinal game Dec. 10.
Perennial championship favorite Mount Union will also be moving on in the playoffs following a 28-21 win over Johns Hopkins. They’ll meet Alfred in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
