MADISON, WI – The Madison Capitols, a member of the United States Hockey League, will open the 2016-17 season with a four-game road trip before they return home for their Home Opener when they host the Green Bay Gamblers in second game of the nine-game Cheese Cup Series at 7:05 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center on Friday, October 14, Capitols President Bob Gazich announced on Wednesday.
The Capitols will open their third USHL season with four road games starting with a game at 7:05 p.m. against the Gamblers at the Resch Center on Friday, September 23. The Capitols will then travel to the Ralston Arena for a single game against the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, September 30. Madison will finish their road trip with a two-game series against the Youngstown Phantoms with the puck dropping at 6:05 p.m. on Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8. The Capitols return home with a 7:05 p.m. contest at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum against the Gamblers on Friday, October 14.
The start times for all Capitols home games Monday through Saturday for the 2016-17 season will be 7:05 p.m., and the puck will drop at 4:05 p.m. for all home games on Sundays this season.
The Capitols 60-game schedule includes 30 games at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The Capitols will meet all eight of their Eastern Conference rivals during the 2016-17 season. Madison will play 43 of the 60-game season against teams in the Eastern Conference, which includes Bloomington, Cedar Rapids, Chicago, Dubuque, Green Bay, Muskegon, Team USA U18, and Youngstown. The Capitols will play Green Bay nine times (four home and five road games), Cedar Rapids and Dubuque six times (three home and three road games), Chicago and Muskegon five times (CHI – three home and two road games; MUS – two home and three road games), and Bloomington, Team USA U18, and Youngstown four times (two home and two road games).
Madison will play 17 games this season against the Western Conference which includes Des Moines, Fargo, Lincoln, Omaha, Sioux City, Sioux Falls, Tri-City, and Waterloo. The Capitols will play Waterloo three times (two home and one road game), and Des Moines, Fargo, Lincoln, Omaha, Sioux City, Sioux Falls, and Tri-City twice during the season (TRI – two home and zero road games, FAR – zero home and two road games, DM, LN, OMA, SC, and SF – one home and one road game).
